Sending Gifts in Switzerland: How to Get Delivery Right
Sending a gift in Switzerland is straightforward once you know a few local details. If you are ordering from abroad, the delivery routine may be a little different from the one you are used to.
Two things matter most: the delivery name must match the name on the mailbox, and your recipient should know to check that mailbox on delivery day. They usually do not need to be home: KULA brownies are normally left in the mailbox or its parcel compartment, rather than handed over at the door.
The delivery name MUST match the mailbox name
In most cases, the name on the delivery address MUST match the name displayed on the mailbox. If it does not, the parcel will be returned to the sender. A correct street, house number and postcode are not enough if the delivery person cannot identify the recipient's mailbox.
Before ordering, check the exact name on the mailbox. Do not use a nickname, a previous surname or your own name as the sender. If your recipient has moved or lives with a partner or family member, confirm which name is displayed and use the appropriate c/o details.
This is especially important for fresh brownies. If an incorrect mailbox name causes your KULA box to be returned, we cannot resend those brownies: by the time they reach us, they will no longer be fresh enough to send out again. Please double-check the mailbox name before placing your order.
Keep your own details in the billing section. The shipping details must identify the recipient and the name on the mailbox.
When should you use c/o?
Use c/o, meaning “care of”, when the recipient is staying at an address where someone else’s name identifies the household.
For example, if Anna is staying with Luca and only Luca’s name appears on the mailbox, the address could read:
Anna Keller
c/o Luca Rossi
[Street name and house number]
[Four-digit postcode and town]
Switzerland
This is an illustrative layout: use the actual names and address confirmed by your recipient. Put the c/o line in the additional-address or company field if the checkout provides one.
What should a Swiss gift delivery address include?
- The recipient’s full name.
- A c/o or company name where needed.
- The street name and building number.
- The four-digit Swiss postcode and correct town.
- Switzerland as the delivery country when ordering online.
Add any building or department details needed to identify the recipient. An apartment number can help, but it should not replace the mailbox name. For office deliveries, include the company name and check that someone will be there to receive the parcel.
KULA brownies usually go into the mailbox—not to the door
We send our brownies with Swiss Post Priority or A-Post Plus (A+). In nearly all cases, your KULA box is placed in the mailbox or its storage compartment, rather than handed to the recipient at the door. Do not expect the postie to ring the doorbell or wait for someone to answer.
Many Swiss mailboxes have a letter section and a larger compartment underneath, often called a Milchkasten. These mailboxes are commonly in a shared entrance area or outside the building, where the delivery person can access them without anyone being home.
What if the recipient is out all day?
There is usually no need to worry if someone is at work or out on delivery day. In most cases, the box is left in their mailbox compartment and can wait there during the day until they return. They do not normally need to stay home to receive their brownies.
Do let them know to check the mailbox when they get home—even if nobody rang the bell. For a fresh-food gift, plan for collection that day, rather than leaving it there through a holiday or several days away. If the mailbox is exposed to heat or direct sun, arrange prompt collection.
If a box does not fit, the delivery person cannot access the mailbox, or a different delivery arrangement applies, Swiss Post may use another permitted location or leave a collection notice. Check the delivery notification for the actual location.
What does “delivered” mean on tracking?
A delivered status does not always mean the gift has been handed directly to the person. It may have been placed in their mailbox or storage compartment, or received at a workplace or hospital reception.
If your gift shows as delivered but your recipient has not seen it, ask them to check the letter section, the storage compartment and any delivery notice. They can also check with their household, reception or a neighbour if the notification indicates one.
If it still cannot be found, contact the shop with your order number and tracking details so they can help investigate.
Sending fresh gifts, including KULA brownies
Choose a day when your recipient can collect the box from their mailbox, even if that is after work. Being out during the day is usually fine; being away for several days is a different matter.
You can keep the contents a surprise while saying, “Something little is arriving for you—please check your mailbox when you get home.”
KULA’s four-brownie boxes travel by A-Post Plus; larger boxes travel by Swiss Post Priority. Both are normally left in the mailbox or storage compartment. Follow the storage guidance included with your box once it is collected.
Check the mailbox name before ordering. A box returned because the name does not match cannot simply be resent: the brownies would no longer be fresh enough.
Our usual delivery days are Tuesday to Saturday, with orders placed Monday to Friday before 10am Swiss time eligible for next-day delivery. Check the dates offered at checkout, especially around public holidays. Occasional postal delays can happen, so allow some flexibility for a time-sensitive occasion.
Can you send a KULA gift to Switzerland from abroad?
Yes. Order online from wherever you are and choose a delivery address in Switzerland or Liechtenstein. Add a personalised card and, if you like, a video message. Your gift is prepared locally in Zürich and sent through Swiss Post.
Questions about sending gifts in Switzerland
Does the recipient need to be home?
Usually, no. KULA brownies sent by Priority or A-Post Plus are, in nearly all cases, placed in the mailbox or its storage compartment. The box can wait there during the day while the recipient is out. Ask them to collect it when they get home and avoid leaving a fresh-food gift in heat or uncollected for several days.
What happens if the mailbox name is wrong?
In most cases, a parcel addressed to a name that does not match the mailbox will be returned to the sender. For KULA brownies, that means we cannot resend the returned box because it would no longer be fresh enough. Confirm the exact mailbox name and include a c/o line when needed.
Can I keep the gift a surprise?
Absolutely. Confirm the address discreetly and let them know to look out for a delivery without revealing what is inside.
